It has been 11 days since builder Bella Modular collapsed into liquidation, leaving scores of customers — who had handed over thousands of dollars for modular buildings such as granny flats — wondering of they would ever see anything for their money.

Liquidator Geoff Davis from BCR Advisory has been having a forensic look into the financial affairs of Bella Modular, and describes what he has found so far as “an unmitigated disaster” for those customers.

He says there are around 101 contracts — with a total value of $16.3 million, an average of $187,000 per customer. And, with no builders warranty or insurance in place, and contracts stating the unfinished buildings remain the property of the company until the final payment is made, there is no good news.

“These people have got nothing,” he says,

Mr Davis confirmed the liquidators were investigating all company transactions, and was working closely with banks and other businesses to try to get a picture of the state of the books and any assets. He confirmed they would be reporting to ASIC.
